About this project

The One-Room Dome is a personal design study — a geodesic dome home imagined as a single, daylit, multifunctional room — paired with an honest, cited resource for anyone thinking about building a dome of their own.

It is not a product and not a sales site. The build-method comparison and the resource directory deliberately keep the practical questions in: tested assembly performance, moisture detailing, complete project costs, and what vendor claims can—and cannot—tell us.

How to read the research

This is a curious person’s field guide, not a ranking of products. Public-agency and code-evaluation references explain general principles. Supplier links describe the systems they offer; they are not independent evidence of cost savings, lifespan or safety. The reality check keeps those distinctions visible. Claims were reviewed on October 10, 2026. Directory links may change after review.

Provenance & licensing

All of the imagery here is the author’s own work, and it comes in two flavours:

  • AI concept art & films — the still (src/assets/photos/) and the 15 clips (public/videos/) were generated by the author with Grok Imagine. They’re the high-fidelity look at the idea, and they carry the vibe the rough 3D studies can’t yet.
  • 3D studies — the renders (src/assets/renders/) and Blender sources (design/) are the author’s own work-in-progress, shown honestly as a low-fi iteration strip.

All of the above content and the written prose on the site are licensed for reuse under Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 (see LICENSE-CONTENT). The site’s code — the Astro components, pages, and configuration — is licensed under the MIT License (see LICENSE).

How it’s built

  • Astro — a static site, built to a project page on GitHub Pages and served from the /dome/ base. Two type-safe content collections drive the comparison table and the resource directory.
  • Tailwind CSS (v4, via the Vite plugin) for a warm, biophilic layout that echoes the reference photo’s palette.
  • Blender for the renders and the .blend design sources — the same tooling that could later re-render clean hero shots.
  • Images are optimized to responsive AVIF/WebP through astro:assets; the ~35 MB of concept clips are served as plain files (no Git LFS, which GitHub Pages does not serve).
